Brief History
The induction of special education program for children with special needs at the Vydehi campus began in November 2007. This service for different impairments such as cerebral palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down’s syndrome, cognitive impairment, visual impairment and multiple disabilities was offered to children above the age of 5 years.
The school sessions began from January 2008 with 10 students and two staff members. From June 2008, four groups were formulated as the total number of students increased to 16 with a teacher/student ratio of 1:4. Individual sessions were provided in the afternoon. Functional assessments for children referred by various departments in hospital were also conducted.
Brigance Diagnostic, a comprehensive inventory of basic skills, was introduced in January 2009. The inventory helped in identifying the skill areas to be assessed, tracking the progress of individual student, identifying instructional objective and material, and interpreting information from the record book.
