The trust employs a specialist physiotherapy team who are committed to providing a clinically effective physiotherapy service to patients, both as inpatients and outpatients.

Physiotherapists working in outpatient department are trained to assess and treat a variety of musculoskeletal, respiratory and neurological conditions as well as pediatrics and women’s health.

People can be referred for physiotherapy by their GP, or by a Hospital Doctor or other health professional for an expert opinion of their problem.

Treatments can include:

• Manual therapy
• Exercises – individual or group
• Walking aid, orthoses and prostheses assessment and provision
• Core stability training
• Electrotherapy and nerve stimulation
• Hydrotherapy
• Postural advice on appropriate workstation set up ensuring not to aggravate the condition with poor posture.

Onward referrals

Should you require additional diagnostic tests such as x-ray and MRI, or onward referral to a specialist physician or surgeon, the Physiotherapy Clinic is able to offer you the convenience of direct access to associated specialties at Vydehi Hospital.

In-patient treatment

Our physiotherapy team provides treatment for patients who have undergone a wide range of procedures including cardiac, orthopedic and neurological surgery. Patients receive appropriate treatment and rehabilitation and, in preparation for their discharge are given advice and a programme of exercises. Local patients may then continue physiotherapy on an out-patients basis.


Pediatric services

The Physiotherapist applies physiotherapy skills and knowledge to the assessment of the child and the design, delivery and evaluation of a treatment programme for the management of neonates, infants, children and adolescents with disabilities. The physiotherapist aims to maximize the child’s physical potential within the framework of Family Centered Care using developmentally appropriate intervention.

The role include:

• Evaluate a child’s ability in relation to his/her gross motor development and produce an assessment, advising parents and medical staff on the child’s needs. Specific assessments are often requested by education as part of a child’s “Assessment of special educational needs”, or by social services “Children’s with disability team” identifying a child’s present needs in order to find suitable careers or future needs to plan housing needs or alterations.
• Advice parents, care-givers and the child, if old enough, on the condition and informing them on various physiotherapy options working in partnership with them on the most appropriate strategies to enable each child to achieve his/her potential.
• The physiotherapist will work closely with the child’s care- givers teaching through demonstration handling techniques to encourage the child’s gross motor development or specific techniques to maintain the child’s health.
